What is Performance Appraisal?










According to the management study guide “Performance Appraisal is the systematic evaluation of the performance of employees and to understand the abilities of a person for further growth and development. Performance appraisal is generally done in systematic ways which are as follows,

  1. The supervisors measure the pay of employees and compare it with targets and plans.
  2. The supervisor analyses the factors behind work performances of employees.
  3. The employers are in position to guide the employees for a better performance”. (Guide, 2019)

Performance appraisal is a key for successful person to grow in the professional career also it helps to grow low performing employees from the current level. Since Performance appraisal is doing frequently and periodically it gives a guideline to develop the employees.

At the mean time employer can monitor the employee in a meaningful way and it will help to improve their organisational performance.

Though this is a very good process for monitoring, most of the employees don’t have a positive attitude towards performance appraisal. But if they have worked hard with achieving Set Targets while maintaining high standards for competencies.

If employees are well educated about the process they will never afraid to face performance appraisals. The Management has a responsibility to have proper training's to change their fear and suspicion then both parties can enjoy the mutual benefits of performance appraisal.

    1) Track exceptional performance & compensate.
